Malcolm Schwartz, M.D.

Dr. Malcolm Schwartz is a founding member of Consultants in Urology.  He received his bachelor’s degree from The George Washington University in Washington, DC in 1967, and his medical degree from The New Jersey Medical School in Newark, New Jersey, in 1972.  Dr. Schwartz trained as an Intern at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, where he also served his Residency in General Surgery.  He completed his Urology Residency at Bellevue Hospital Center, The Manhattan Veterans Administration Hospital, Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital for Cancer and Allied Diseases and The New York University Medical Center where he was Chief Resident in Urology from 1977 to 1978.  Dr. Schwartz is certified by The American Board of Urology and was formerly Chief of Urology at Overlook Hospital in Summit, New Jersey, and Union Hospital in Union, New Jersey, as well as Chief of the Medical Staff and a member of the Board of Trustees of Children's Specialized Hospital in Mountainside, New Jersey where he currently serves as a consultant.  He has been honored as a "Top Physician" in The Castle Connolly Guide, America's Top Physicians and has also received The Nurse's Choice Award from New Jersey Monthly Magazine.  Dr. Schwartz practices all aspects of Urology and has particular expertise in Male Infertility.  He is a member of The American Society of Reproductive Medicine and a consultant to Resolve, the national infertility organization.  Dr. Schwartz was honorably discharged with the rank of Lieutenant Commander after serving twenty years in the Medical Corps of the United States Naval Reserve.  He is married with four children and resides in Westfield, New Jersey. He is licensed to practice medicine in New Jersey, New York and Connecticut. 

   

Bernard J. Lehrhoff, M.D.

Dr Bernard Lehrhoff did his undergraduate studies at the University of Maryland and graduated medical school at NJ Medical School. He did his urologic residency training at NYU Hospital, Bellevue Hospital, The Manhattan VA Hospital and Memorial Sloan Kettering. He specializes in urologic cancers including prostate, kidney, bladder, and testicular cancers. He is one of the national leaders in erectile dysfunction. He specializes in penile prosthesis and incontinence and has one of the busiest penile implant practices in the country. In addition, Dr Lehrhoff specializes in kidney stone disease, interstitial cystitis, male infertility, and microsurgery for peyronies disease.  Dr. Lehrhoff has been recognized as one of the Top Urologists in the Castle Connelly Guide for greater than ten years in a row and twice mentioned in NY Magazine as a Top Urologist in the NY metropolitan area. He has also been listed numerous times in NJ top Doctors.  

   

Kenneth S. Ring, M.D.

Dr. Kenneth Ring earned a bachelor's of arts magna cum laude from Williams College in 1981 and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He received his medical degree from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York in 1985 where he was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, the National Medical Honor Society and received the Lange Award for Academic Excellence. He completed his preliminary surgical training at the Mount Sinai Medical Center, before completing a residency in urology at the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University. He has authored over 18 published articles and book chapters on various Urologic topics. Dr. Ring is certified by the American Board of Urology.

He has been listed in the Castle-Connelly Guide, “Top Doctors in NY Metropolitan Area” from 1997 to 2010. He has also been selected four times as a “Top Doctor” in New Jersey Monthly as well as being listed in New York Magazine “The Best Doctors in New York” issue.  Dr. Ring’s areas of interest include pediatric urology, prostate cancer, minimally invasive therapies for benign prostatic enlargement, pelvic surgery, and endoscopic management of stone disease. Dr. Ring presently serves as Chief of Urology at Overlook Hospital in Summit. In addition, he is an executive board member of the NJ Patient CARE and access coalition.

   

Mark I. Miller, M.D.

Dr. Mark Miller graduated summa cum laude from Brandeis University with high honors in biochemistry in 1987. He earned his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College in 1991 and completed his residency in urology at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York in 1997. Dr. Miller is the author of numerous presentations and published articles on issues of urological importance. He is board certified by the American Board of Urology, and his areas of expertise include stone disease, benign prostatic hyperplasia, female urology ,and urologic oncology. Dr. Miller has been selected three times as a "Top Doctor" in New Jersey Monthly Magazine, and he currently serves as the Vice Chairman of The Stone Center of New Jersey. 

   

Joshua M. Fiske, M.D.

Dr. Joshua Fiske graduated with honors from Lehigh University in 1995. He received his Medical Degree from NYU School of Medicine in 1999. He completed his Urology Residency at NYU Hospital, Bellevue Hospital and Manhattan VA Hospital where he served as the Chief Resident in 2005. He has authored several published articles in peer reviewed journals on a vairety of Urologic topics. He is board-certified by the American Board of Urology. Dr Fiske practices all aspects of Urology with areas of expertise that include laparoscopic kidney surgery and minimally invasive treatment of kidney stones, urinary incontinence and benign prostate hypertrophy.  He is currently Chairperson of the Overlook Hospital Urology Tumor Board and was named "Top Doctor" Nurses Choice award in NJ Monthly.

   

Andrew Bernstein, M.D.

Dr. Andrew Bernstein graduated from the Honors Program at University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 1995. He owned and operated a Silicon Valley Internet corporation before attending medical school at the Chicago Medical School where he graduated as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. Dr. Bernstein completed his residency training in General Surgery and Urology at William Beaumont Hospital in 2007. He then completed a specialized fellowship in Laparoscopic and Robotic Urology (minimally invasive surgery) at the University of Chicago, graduating in 2008. He is certifed by the American Board of Urology and the author of numerous peer-reviewed articles and textbook chapters. He has spoken to local, regional and national audiences on a variety of urologic topics, including bladder cancer, urinary incontinence and robotic prostate surgery. Dr. Bernstein is Chief of the Department of Robotic Surgery at Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ. He was named a 2016 Castle Connolly Top Doctor for the New York Metro Area.

   
 
 

Jerold Grubman, MD, FACS

Dr Jerold Grubman has been practicing urology with Urological Surgical Associates since 1973. He graduated from the City College of New York and Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Grubman completed both his internship and residency at Bronx Municipal Hospital in Bronx, New York, serving as Chief Urology Resident.

Board Certified in Urology and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Grubman practices both general and surgical urology in Middlesex and Monmouth counties in New Jersey. Recognized for his leading expertise, Dr. Grubman has also served as principal investigator for several clinical trials including prostate cancer, benign prostatic hypertrophy, voiding dysfunction, and bladder cancer.

Dr Jerold Grubman was named by New Jersey Monthly magazine one of the "Top Doctors in New Jersey". This is a prestigious recognition awarded to only a handful of urologists in New Jersey. He has also been named a Top Doctor by Castle Connolly.

 

Andrei Kachala MD, FACS

A graduate of University of Akron and Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, Dr. Andrei Kachala completed his residency at University Hospitals of Cleveland Ohio. Dr. Kachala served as the Chief of Urology at Walsen Army Hospital. He joined our practice in 1978. Dr. Kachala practices general and surgical urology.
Board Certified in Urology and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Kachala has also served as Chief of Urology at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy, New Jersey.

 

Benjamin Fand MD, FACS

Dr. Benjamin Fand completed his undergraduate degree at Princeton University.  He received his doctor of medicine from Rutgers Medical School, New Jersey.  He then went on to his urologic internship and residency at Montefiore Medical Center, Albert Einstein School of Medicine, New York. Additionally, he underwent urological oncology surgical training at Memorial Sloan Kettering, New York City.
Board certified in Urology and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Fand joined our team at Urological Surgical Associates in 1984. Dr. Fand’s area of surgical specialty interest includes prostate cancer therapy with the implantation of intraprostatic radioactive seeds, stone disease surgical therapies and minimally invasive treatments of BPH including Laser Prostatectomy.
Dr. Fand also serves as an executive board member of the NJ Patient CARE and access coalition, as a member of the board of directors at the New Jersey Kidney Stone Center and as a managing partner of the Premier Urology Group. He was a sub-investigator for a national clinical trial on chemo-prevention monitoring the progression of prostatic intra-epithelial neoplasia (PIN) to prostate cancer.

 

Dr. William Terens

Dr. William Terens completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Pennsylvania.  He then went on to receive his doctor of medicine from New York UniversityHe stayed on at NYU Medical center to complete his internship and residency in urology. He also served as Chief Urology Resident at both Cabrini Medical Center and New York University School of Medicine. Additionally, he underwent urologic oncology training at Memorial Sloan Kettering, New York City.
A board certified urologist and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Terens is a member of The Impotence Institute of America, The Society for the Study of Impotence, and the American Urological Association. Dr. Terens is currently the Chief of Urology at JFK Medical Center.  Dr. Terens joined our team at Urological Surgical Associates in 1992. He practices both general and surgical urology.

 

Joshua L. Wein, MD, FACS

In 1992 Dr. Wein earned undergraduate degrees in Biomedical and Electrical Engineering at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. He graduated with a medical degree from the State University of New York at Downstate Medical Center in 1996. From 1996 to 2001 Dr. Wein trained as a surgical and urological resident at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. He finished his training as Chief Resident of Urology at Rhode Island Hospital in 2001.
A member of Urological Surgical Associates since 2001, Dr. Wein is a board certified urologist and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Wein practices both general and surgical urology with a special focus in laparoscopic kidney surgery.

 

Rupa Patel MD

Dr. Rupa Patel is a female urologist who received her undergraduate degree from Boston University.  She went on to receive her medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine in 1998, graduating as a member of the prestigious honor society, Alpha Omega Alpha.  She completed her surgical and urologic residency at New York University School of Medicine in 2004.  In 2004, Dr. Rupa Patel joined our team at Urological Surgical Associates offering an expertise in female urology, incontinence, voiding dysfunction, laparoscopy and pelvic prolapse repairs. 

Although Dr. Rupa Patel practices general adult and pediatric urology she specializes in the care of women.  She offers an advanced and compassionate approach to the treatment of sensitive and embarrassing urologic conditions that commonly affect women. 

Her neuro-urology and female urology training was under the guidance of one of the nation's leading experts, Dr. Victor Nitti.

Additionally, she has had extensive training and expertise in laparoscopy under the direction of an accomplished leader in the field, Dr. Michael Stifelman.

Dr. Rupa Patel is a member of the American Urological Association and The Society for Urodynamics and Female Urology.  She has conducted extensive research and published several articles in leading urology journals. 

 

Neil D. Sherman MD

After graduating from James Madison University with a degree in health administration, Dr. Neil Sherman obtained his medical degree from New York Medical College in 1998.  Dr. Sherman then completed his general surgery and urological surgery residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey – New Jersey Medical School in 2004.

Following residency, Dr. Sherman completed a prestigious fellowship in reconstructive urology, female urology and urinary incontinence at Duke University Medical Center under the tutelage of Dr. George Webster, internationally renowned professor of reconstructive urology.

Prior to joining Urological Surgical Associates in 2009, Dr. Sherman was the Director of Reconstructive and Female Urology at UMDNJ – New Jersey Medical School/University Hospital and an Assistant Professor in Urology.

Dr. Sherman is board certified in urologic surgery.  He has published multiple journal articles and book chapters and lectured at local and national meetings.  Dr. Sherman places an emphasis on compassionate patient care and develops a unique treatment plan tailored to each individual patient.

 

Michael Lasser, M.D.

Dr. Lasser obtained his undergraduate degree from the Pennsylvania State University. He went on to obtain his medical degree from Rutgers University - Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in 2006, graduating with an award for excellence in surgery and as a member of the prestigious honor society Alpha Omega Alpha. Dr. Lasser trained at Brown University for his general surgery internship and residency in urologic surgery. After residency, Dr. Lasser completed additional training in robotic urologic surgery and minimally invasive urologic surgery at Montefiore Medical Center / Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City.

Prior to joining Premier Urology Group Dr. Lasser served as the Medical Director of Robotic Surgery at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. Dr. Lasser is board certified in Urology and in addition to robotic surgery is well trained in all aspects of urologic care.

Dr. Lasser has written chapters in urologic textbooks as well as published online. He has presented multiple papers and abstracts at both regional and international meetings. Additionally, he has published papers on the management of complications of urologic surgery, robotic surgery, and the treatment of kidney cancer, prostate cancer, and kidney stones. He has been named the Medical Director of Robotic Surgery at JFK Medical Center.

Radiation Oncologists:

 

Dr. Mark Macher

Mark Macher, MD is a board certified radiation oncologist with special interest in urologic cancers. He received his medical education at Howard University College of Medicine and trained in Radiation Oncology at NYU Medical Center. He spent a year as a Fellow in the Department of Radiation Oncology at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY.  Dr. Macher has been Medical Director of Radiation Oncology at JFK Medical Center in Edison, NJ since 1994. He has also been the Principal Investigator for the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group at JFK Medical Center for more than 20 years and has participated in numerous National Cancer Institute clinical trials.

 

Dr. Stan Golin

Stan Golin, MD is a board certified radiation oncologist who graduated cum laude from New York University with a major in Biology.  He received his medical education from the NY State program of the Sackler School of Medicine/Tel Aviv University in Israel.  He completed his Radiation Oncology training at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY in 2004 and currently serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Radiation Oncology at SUNY Downstate.  During the course of his professional career while working in community based cancer programs in New York and New Jersey, Dr. Golin developed a particular clinical interest in genitourinary and gynecologic malignancies including prostate and bladder cancer.  He believes strongly in a multidisciplinary approach to these diseases in order to improve outcomes.  Dr. Golin is fluent in Russian.
